How Many Times Can You Use an iHerb Promo Code? Single-Use, Two-Use and Multi-Use Codes

iHerb promo codes with personality: One-and-Dones, Second Dates and Workaholics

Updated: 8 min read

You enter a promo code in your iHerb cart, click “Apply”, and instead of a discount you see red text under the field: “Promo code’s maximum use (1) has been reached”? This message means the code’s usage limit on your account has run out. Maybe you already used it in a previous order and forgot, or someone in your household placed an order from your account and applied the code without telling you.

The thing is, every iHerb promo code has its own limit: single-use codes work once, two-use codes work twice, and multi-use codes work on every order for as long as the promotion runs. We call them One-and-Dones, Second Dates and Workaholics.

Below, we’ll explain how they differ, what determines how many times your code will work, how to check its limit in advance, and what to do if the code has already run out.

×1 One-and-Dones: single-use promo codes

A One-and-Done works for you exactly once. There won’t be a second date, no matter how hard you try. These promo codes come in four types.

First-order codes and welcome discounts. This is iHerb’s gift to new customers on their very first order. Some welcome codes also work only in the iHerb mobile app.

Personal codes from emails. Every now and then, iHerb sends an email saying “Don’t miss the opportunity to save money!” with a personal promo code that works only for you. In our example, the code gives 10% off and is valid for just 2 days.

A code like this is single-use and works only on the account linked to the email address it was sent to. Did a friend forward you her personal code? Sorry, iHerb will spot the switch right away and show you this:

iHerb error after entering someone else's personal code: "We're sorry, but your account is not eligible for this promo"
The error you get when entering someone else’s personal code: “We’re sorry, but your account is not eligible for this promo”

So there’s no point in sharing these codes, even with your nearest and dearest. Entered your own code from your mom’s account? It won’t work, even if Mom asks really nicely.

Trial items. These aren’t promo codes, but they have the same personality. iHerb lets you try products that are new to you at up to 50% off, up to 4 items per order. But the discount applies once per product and only on your first purchase of it. Loved that serum at the trial price? The second time around, you’ll pay full price.

One more detail: trial items can’t be combined with other offers. That’s why promo codes don’t apply to trial items.

Regular single-use promo codes. Single-use codes aren’t only for newcomers. There are also regular promo codes that any customer can use, but only once. Take 15NEXT: it isn’t limited to first orders, but it won’t work a second time on the same account. You used it once, and that’s it: it’s your ex now.

×2 Second Dates: two-use promo codes

A Second Date gives you one more chance: the code works twice, and then it’s over.

These codes show up in certain promotions. To see whether any two-use promo codes are available right now, check herb-insider.com: every code card shows how many orders the code covers.

Why iHerb likes Second Dates

For a store, the hardest order isn’t the first one, it’s the second. Plenty of people buy something “just to try” and then forget about the store. A two-use code gives them a reason to come back: the discount is still there, so why not use it?

∞ Workaholics: multi-use promo codes

A Workaholic doesn’t count how many times you’ve used it: it works on every order for as long as the promotion runs.

These are usually sale and seasonal codes: Black Friday, 11.11, summer and holiday sales.

What’s the catch?

A Workaholic has no limit on the number of uses, but it does have a time limit. Once the promotion ends, the code stops working. iHerb lists the end time in the promotion terms in Pacific Time, and it’s often 10:00 AM.

10:00 AM Pacific Time is 1:00 PM in New York and usually 6:00 PM in London. Wherever you are, convert the deadline to your own time zone, or “I’ll order tonight” may turn out to be too late.

And one last thing: even a Workaholic doesn’t like company. You can apply only one promo code per order, and two order-wide discounts don’t stack.

What determines how many times a code works

The limit isn’t random: iHerb sets it separately for each promotion. Four things affect how many times a code will work for you.

  1. The type of promotion. Some codes are designed for one use, others for two, and multi-use codes work on every order until the promotion ends. This is stated in the terms of each promo code.
  2. Whether it’s your first order. Codes for newcomers work only on your very first iHerb order. Trial items work in a similar way, but each product counts separately: you get the trial price only if you’re buying that product for the first time, even if you’ve placed plenty of orders before.
  3. Whether it’s your account. A personal code from an email works only on the account whose email address received it. If you enter it from a different account, iHerb will show the error “Your account is not eligible for this promo”.
  4. The expiration date. Even a multi-use code has an end date, and you’ll find it in the promotion terms.

How to check your code’s limit

You can check the limit before you place your order. Here’s where to look.

  1. On the promo code card at herb-insider.com. Every code on our site shows how many uses it’s designed for. For example, the 15NEXT card says “1 order per customer”, which makes it a One-and-Done.
15NEXT promo code card on Herb Insider: 15% off, 1 order per customer
The 15NEXT promo code card on herb-insider.com: 15% off, 1 order per customer
  2. In the promotion terms. If you found the code somewhere else, look for notes like “first order only”, “one-time use” or “valid until…”. Don’t skip the fine print: it isn’t there just for decoration.
  3. In the error message. If the limit has already been reached, iHerb will tell you. The number in brackets shows how many times the code could be used.
iHerb error for promo code 15NEXT: "Promo code's maximum use (1) has been reached"
The (1) in brackets means the code is single-use, and that one use is already gone

What to do if the limit has been reached

The “maximum use” message popped up, but you’re sure you never used the code? Go through this list.

  • Think back to your past orders. The most common reason: a month ago you entered the code “just to see”, placed the order and forgot about it. The code itself isn’t shown in the order: iHerb only shows how much you saved, not which promo code you used. But if a recent order has a line like this, it’s worth thinking twice.
iHerb order total showing "You saved $2.91"
A line in an iHerb order: “You saved $2.91”
  • Think about who else uses your account. If the whole family shares one account, someone may have got there before you.
  • Canceled an order that used a single-use code? iHerb recommends waiting 15 minutes before entering the code again. Apparently the code walks home.
  • Seeing “Your account is not eligible for this promo”? Then it’s someone else’s personal code, or you’re signed in to the wrong account. Make sure you’re ordering from the account whose email address received the code.
  • Find another code. One-and-Dones and Second Dates run out, but iHerb launches new promotions all the time. You’ll find fresh promo codes, each with its number of uses, at herb-insider.com.

Is iHerb showing a different error, not about the usage limit? Maybe the code has expired, doesn’t cover your shipping country, or your cart is below the minimum? We’ve covered every common error message and how to fix it in our guide “Why Your iHerb Promo Code Isn’t Working: 12 Reasons and How to Fix Them”.

Cheat sheet

Personality How many times it works Where you’ll find it Main limitation
One-and-Done Once First orders, personal codes from emails (your account only, limited time), trial items, regular single-use promo codes There’s no second time
Second Date Twice Certain promotions Won’t work on a third order
Workaholic On every order until the promotion ends Sales and seasonal promotions The promotion deadline

Bottom line: if iHerb tells you a promo code has reached its limit, it doesn’t mean the code is broken or fake. It simply did its job.
